2013 Artisan Finalists Blog Hop - Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of the Blog Hop! It's great seeing such amazing work by some wonderful ladies. Today, I have another card to share; I think this card is simple but very pretty.

When I make a card I often start out with a color scheme, and one of my favorite places to find different color combinations is Pinterest. For this card I was inspired by a few of the colors in this pin. I really loved the coral and purple together, so I decided to use Calypso Coral and Perfect Plum (a neglected color in my crafting world).

The Naturals Composition Specialty DSP provides a very easy wow, the paper is already embossed!  I made a coordinating envelope by taking apart a Whisper White Envelope, tracing it onto the DSP, and cutting it out with Paper Snips. I did it this way (instead of with the Simply Scored and Diagonal Plate) because I wanted a straight edge that I could use the Scallop Edge Punch on.

The two stamped flowers is from the Mixed Bunch stamp set, and is punched out with the coordinating Blossom Punch. For the top flower, I cut a slit in between two of the petals and then layered one petal on top of the other to make a five petal flower instead of six.  Then, I curled the petals using my bone folder and smooched the center down on the table, so it sat flat on top of the other flower. (Does that make sense?? If it doesn't just ask!)

I used several layers of Perfect Plum CS punched with the Scallop Edge Punch to create a fun ruffle effect. Paper-piercing is one of my favorite ways to quickly and easily finish off a card.
