Welcome to another Monday Montage Blog Hop! Do you ever get an idea in your head and just have to make it? That was this butterfly mobile for me. I have no idea what I am going to do with it now that it is done, but I love how it turned out!
I used all of the colors in the Subtles Collection to create a rainbow effect. The photos can't capture the sparkle and movement this has, which really makes this project. There are nine strands, each with the ten colors in the collection (so, yes 90 butterflies). The lengths of the strands are varied to provide some interest. The overall length ended up being over 4 feet (I'm not even exaggerating, it's pretty big).
Each butterfly was built using the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die and Elegant Butterfly Punch. The base is Coaster Board and each side has a Subtles Designer Series Paper, Silver Glimmer Paper, and Vellum Card Stock butterly. I love the texture on these with the chevrons, polka dots, and glitter! The centers of the butterflies are stitched to create a subtle detail.

ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, kaitlyn!! this is absolutely amazingly beautiful! i am obsessed with butterflies and i have a thousand questions. are the butterflies two or single sided? what did you use for the ring? i have to figure out a way to do this without a sewing machine. gosh i wish i could have seen you make this! spectacular!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeannine! The butterflies are two sided. I glued them all together first, so you could easily skip the sewing! I strung them on silver baker's twine by punching a hole where it is hidden under the pattern paper and tied a knot. I just went to hobby lobby and asked for a metal ring and they took me to it. Hope this helps!
DeleteUber Cute Kaitlyn!! May have to try my own out... now to get my husband to run some butterflies through the big shot. Lol!
